Kees Marcelis and Wehkamp spent many years working together on the renovation and restyling of various parts of the Wehkamp.nl headquarters in Zwolle (including the entrance hall, restaurant, ICT department and directors’ wing). The pleasant partnership and the close involvement of both Kees Marcelis and the Wehkamp staff produced a surprising end result. This has also made our external image tangible for both our visitors and our employees.
There was an immediate click during the first meeting with Kees Marcelis. He didn’t give us a “glossy” presentation or the answers he thought we wanted to hear. Instead, he carefully observed our house and used his pen to inject new vigour into the space that was to be renovated. He took us along with him on his creative journey, which meant that we too experienced it as a kind of rebirth of our home. Thanks to this approach, and of course the end result, Kees was also commissioned to revamp the Chamber of Commerce in Arnhem. He did so with the same successful outcome – a surprising combination of space, colour and lines that created an optimal ambiance for interaction.
What do you do if you hit a stumbling block when redesigning your office space and have no idea how to create a warm, welcoming environment? You go in search of an interior architect who can help you. That’s how we came into contact with Kees Marcelis and his team. After just two meetings, Kees showed us his drawings in which he had created a work environment with the homely feel implied by our company name, ‘House of Sports’, and which brought out the very best in us. We now have attractive collages of sports photos, cupboards that subtly blend into the walls and a welcoming kitchen area with a wooden table. Above all, the ambiance now exudes a sense of energy and everyone who comes here – whether customers, athletes or employees – quickly feels at home.
